This product is poured into casts to form bathroom counters and shower surrounds that are easier to care for than natural stone. Cultured marble is made of a mixture of polyester resin limestone dust fillers and pigments with a clear gel coat finish on top. If you use abrasive cleaners however you can scratch the shiny gel coat surface of the cultured. I had some deep scratches in my bathroom sink so i sanded this down knowing that i might go way too far with believe it or not 80 grit then 120 then 220 etc. I have done the following so far. Also got some 2000 grit which made it smoother but didn t polish it.

Cultured marble countertops do contain marble dust but they re not natural stone. Any minor scratches burns or stains can be buffed out of the cultured marble with an automotive buffing compound readily available at any hardware store or places where they sell automotive products. Refinishing the sink typically requires you to refinish the counter top as well. The same technology is used to make cultured onyx and cultured granite. While you can t remove deep scratches that go all the way through the gel coat it is possible to restore the surface and shine using extremely fine sandpaper and polishing compounds. A gel coat is put on the cultured marble at the factory to give the product a shine and seal in the interior resins. Cultured marble vanities are easy to clean and offer the appearance of more expensive stone.

For sinks vanities countertops bathroom tubs wall panels and the areas surrounding tubs and showers. However these procedures are specific to surfaces made with a clear coat layer. They re actually closer to fiberglass or resin which means that if the surface is discolored scratched or you re just sick of it you can paint over it in good conscience.
